Timeless Flair
The original 1940's four room clinker brick home
was purchased in 1992 by the current owners. It
underwent its first extension in 1996, adding
two much needed bedrooms at the rear of the residence,
sidling a hallway.
The decision to extend and remodel was taken after
consideration of the existing investment in the
home and area. "We looked at moving to a
larger house but by the time we paid stamp duty
and moved it..."

Three Generations
Moving in together posed a few problems for this
three generational family comprising daughter,
mother and grandmother. "We couldn't live
on top of each other any longer," says the

Moving Up
As with so many families who are established in
an area, Mark and Bernadette made the decision
to extend and renovate rather than move when their
family started to outgrow their three-bedroom
Californian bungalow in the Melbourne suburbs.
With the creation of space as the main priority
and limited land area as the major challenge,
it made perfect sense to add an upper floor.

A New Era

Modern Makeover
A wonderful high view over a golf course and onto
Mount Cooper encouraged this family to open up
the front of their home. Previously, this 1965
brick residence on an odd shaped block only had
a small
door opening onto the front verandah above the
garage and storage area. With grown up children,
it was the right time to update their home and
focus on kitchen, dining and entertainment areas.

The Finishing Touch
The original single storey 1940's brick home had
earlier undergone owner builder improvements,
including ground floor remodelling and the addition
of a basic first floor on three separate occasions
over the years. Lyn explains that after the family
decided to take the plunge in home extension again,
